Simple Pureed Foods for Infants 4-6 Months Old

4-6 months

Here are some examples for simple pureed baby recipes I used when my two kids were this age:

Pureed Apples and Oatmeal

4 spoons of Oatmeal cereal mixed with hot or boiled water; mix in some pureed apple and apple juice to adjust thickness.

You can modify this recipe by adding a different kind of vegetable or fruit, as well as using rice cereal instead.
Consider using a hand blender to puree your baby's food. Alternatively, you can push it through a sieve or use a fork when for example pureeing a banana, avocado or other softer fruits and cooked vegetables.

Introducing solids to your baby

Most babies are ready to start solids between 4- 6 month. Mine were. My older daughter Ana started at 5 months and my baby boy Marc at 4 months.

When I started them on solids they were able to sit and support their neck and head properly; their body weight doubled; and eventually they showed interest in what we were eating and even tried to grab it off our plates - well, they were ready and hungry for much more than just my milk.

Most if not all pediatricians nowadays suggest to start with rice cereal. However, I found that the rice cereal made them constipated. So I switched to oatmeal cereal instead (they were fine) but because of its bland and blah taste I eventually added some pureed veggies and fruit to it. I would add a cooked and then pureed apple, pear, mashed broccoli, avocado. etc.

NOTE: Each time you introduce a new solid food to your baby make sure you wait for about three days to see if it causes an allergic reaction. Don’t introduce anything new during that time; this way, if your baby develops hives, a rash, or a more serious reaction, you’ll know which food caused it.

On a side note, be creative. Please do not torture your baby with bland boring tasteless foods. It is important that you expose your child to a variety of tastes and flavors starting as early as 5 or 6 months. Many pediatricians agree that exposing baby to different tasty (but healthy) foods now may prevent her from developing unhealthy feeding habits later on.

I will post some suggestions and simple recipes for baby foods if you decide to make them at home. This is a less expensive way to feed your baby and more importantly you are in control of what type of food goes into your baby's meal. Stay tuned!

5th Birthday of my Precious Girl and Other Thoughts

The party was a success... we had 49 adults and children attending and my baby girl had lots of fun. It was a great day to celebrate our life and her in it. She's a true God's gift and will always be so. Her baby brother was attending of course and he was very excited to see so many kids in one room. Very soon we will be throwing a wild, big party for his first birthday. Can't wait! I'm already thinking about a birthday cake. What will it be? Well, since I have a huge selection of my aunt's, grandmother's and mother's recipes, I'll certainly have a big job in deciding which is the cake worthy of my sweet baby boy. Stay tuned and the recipes will start pouring in.
Also, as I'm big on healthy and organic foods and since I make everything from scratch for my kids and myself I will try to share as many healthy options to those baby foods we find in stores.

See you around!
Love
T.
